So, I’m browsing the web this morning when I come across an article from GQ Magazine about a journalist who decided to have a Tinder Photographer take her picture. There’s no such thing as a Tinder Photographer… it’s just a photographer who takes a headshot for you and you use it on Tinder. It’s not like there’s some special rules that have to be followed for the picture to be used. It’s not a passport or anything, it’s just a headshot. For Tinder.

Anyway, the great thing about the article is that the journalist saw immediate results on Tinder after she switched to the new portrait. In fact, she sees such a change that she uses the photo for all her accounts: Facebook, email, Linkedin… the works. She finally concludes, “Voluntarily having your portrait taken by a stranger is the most earnest thing ever, but I think it’s worth it to have even just one good photo of yourself. Just like in the olden days.”

This just validates what we photographers are always trying to tell people: A good picture of yourself is vital today. Your persona online is as important (or more) than what you are in-person. Having a good Tinder portrait, Linkedin portrait, Facebook portrait… these are all essential.

It’s a great article and well worth the read. Get a good Tinder portrait. Get a good Linkedin portrait. It takes about 15 minutes and it will make your life better. Honestly.

Here’s the whole article:
