Booray New York

All About Booray Perry Photography

Let’s start by answering the obvious question: What is a “Booray?”

It’s a Cajun name.  I know you’ve probably never met anyone named “Booray” before but it’s a real name.  If you were in Louisiana and told someone you were named, “Booray,” they wouldn’t blink.  It’s not like there’s a “Booray” on every corner but there’s enough of them.

I started taking pictures in the 8th grade.  I had an english teacher who was a photographer and he managed to talk the school into giving him a closet to use as a darkroom.  He taught us how to use the chemicals and we cut our teeth on football games and pep rally’s for the yearbook.  Did the same thing in High School. I don’t want you to get the impression that I was the geeky nerd who carried a camera everywhere and was President of the Chess Club because I wasn’t.

I was Vice-President.

Fast forward to today and I’m married with two daughters, a dog and a cat. I work full-time as a photographer, spending my weekdays in offices all over Tampa Bay doing professional headshots and my weekends photographing weddings and bar mitzvahs.

Now I have to list all the stuff that we photographers use to convince you that you that you can trust me to do a good job. I always feel weird listing this stuff but here we go:

The Tampa Area Professional Photographers Association awarded me  “Wedding/Event Photographer of the Year” in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 (I stopped entering after that). The Florida Professional Photographers Association has awarded me the Imaging Excellence Award as well as the National Award for service to photography.

I’m a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the oldest photography organization in the country with over 30,000 members. The PPA has awarded me the Master Photographer Degree and Master Wedding Photographer degree. I travel and teach event photography all over the country and also host the International Photographic Competition at Imaging USA, the largest photography convention in the world.

I am a Certified Professional Photographer. Only 10% of the photographers in the PPA have passed that test. I spent three years on the committee that writes the questions.

My YouTube channel is where I teach a lot of photography and brainstorm with the other Fuji camera fans. You can follow me on Instagram as well.

If you’ve read this far, thanks for sticking it out!  Hopefully you’ve seen and read enough to consider me for your wedding, Bar Mitzvah, or headshotContact me and let’s start a conversation.

Jacob Shor Bar Mitzvah at Kol Ami

It's been a rough year for Tampa Bar Mitzvahs. In 2020 I had an entire year cancel. Just like that I was out of the Bar Mitzvah Photography business. Oh sure, I did a few small events and a couple at homes but it was nothing compared to what I usually do every year....

The National Ad

Let me start this story with another story: Several years ago, I read a story by Noah Wiley, the actor, about his being asked to appear on "Sesame Street." He was quite moved by it, having grown up watching the show. He echoed something that I have heard other...
