A few weeks ago was the wedding photographer for Billy and Alison at Lange Farm in Dade City. Outdoor weddings can be tough. You never know what the weather will do but when it all comes together it’s just wonderful. Such was the case with Billy and Alison.
This wedding was a little different than most because Alison’s mom is a photographer. Because I travel and teach photography quite a bit, I know a lot of photographers and I get hired to shoot weddings for them and their children from time to time. (Here’s another one from this year at The Beck Building). It’s probably the highest honor I can receive as a wedding photographer. It’s tough to put yourself in the hands of another photographer, we are notoriously picky, so when another photographer asks me to photograph their wedding or the wedding of a child, I consider it a true validation. I mean, it’s easy to tell a fellow pro you like their work, quite another thing to actually hire them. The flip-side of all that good feeling is the pressure that comes with knowing that mom can spot any mistakes you make with the practiced eye of a pro.
Billy and Alison love video games, especially Zelda, so they had a Zelda-themed wedding! I’ve shot hundreds of weddings but this was my first Zelda affair. You’ll see a lot of references in the photographs.
Those are Zelda shoes, in case you’re wondering….
Billy and Alison decided to do a “First-look.” Every wedding photographer on the planet loves the “First-look” because it gives the couple a chance to be present in that moment instead of sharing it in front of 100 people who are staring at them.
Also, it makes for great pictures. :)
One of the great things about this venue is that they have horses!
I love this! It looks just like the writing on the first Legend of Zelda game on the old Nintendo from the 80’s!
I always love it when the bride makes eye contact with me during the ceremony. Just for a split second…
No family picture is complete without the dog. The dog’s name? “Zelda,” of course…
Legend of Zelda cake!
What a great night! My first “Legend of Zelda” wedding!
