Sand Key Wedding Clearwater
I had a wedding at Sand Key park a couple of days ago. It was an elopement, just the couple. It was windy and a little chilly and we had the beach to ourselves. It was really nice. I like it when it’s an elopement and the couple still dress the part. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t care if you want to get married in shorts and flip-flops but I think the pictures are a little more “weddingy” when you dress for a wedding.
“Weddingy” is not a word yet but I’m convinced I can move that needle if I keep using it.
Mahaffey Theater Wedding
Just finished up Jessica and Phillip’s wedding from Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. Getting ready to start on their custom wedding album.
Jessica and Phillip are both opera singers. That’s right, opera singers. I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings, families and so on but I’m still amazed at the diversity of people that I meet. So, now I can say I’ve photographed opera singers. Check that off the list!
Jessica’s mom, Kathy, is a photographer and she was very involved with the decision to have me be their wedding photographer. I think that a lot of photographers shy away from working for other photographers for fear that they won’t meet expectations. I’ve done it a few times and it’s always been great. I think that working for someone who understands the nuance of it all can be a blessing sometimes.
Now, I will shamelessly post the wonderful things she wrote about me on Facebook:
“Words cannot express how pleased we are with your photo’s of Jess & Phil’s wedding. OK, AMAZING, that’s a good word! Thank you for recording our special day! You captured Jess beautifully; her energy and excitment. Thanks again!”
I’ve worked at Mahaffey Theater before, but the wedding was outside on the lawn. This was the first time I’ve worked inside for the ceremony. The reception is always in the same room.
There were over 500 images from the wedding but here’s a few of my favorites from the day…
Tampa Bay Watch Wedding
A few weeks ago I photographed my first wedding of the year at Tampa Bay Watch (link). Stephanie and Matt came all the way from Australia to be married here and everything turned out great, including one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot!).
I’ll be honest, it was hot. We had an unseasonably hot January day for Tampa Bay but I don’t care if it’s hot or cold…. rain is the only thing that I don’t want.
Favorites From Tampa Baywatch Wedding
One of the great things about this venue is that you can get a fantastic sunset wedding without having walk across sand in high heels…
It’s the Zoolander face, in case you’re wondering….
Stephanie had mentioned the canoe when we spoke before the wedding. On the wedding day, it quickly became apparent that she really wanted a photograph in that canoe.
Now, the path to the canoe was muddy and I hadn’t done the romantic bridal portraits yet so I tried to talk her out of it. I was happy to do it, but concerned that she would muddy her dress or, God forbid, fall in the mud. But she was determined so we went for it.
I’m so glad she was determined. What a great picture we got!
